THE FOLLOWING MERCHANTS AND RESTAURANTS IN HISTORIC DOWNTOWN ARE PARTICIPATING IN THE LAFAYETTE BIRTHDAY SIDEWALK SALE ON SEPTEMBER 10:

Huske Hardware House will feature a special brew, the "Lafayette amber ale," in honor of the French nobleman who fought for our freedom alongside George Washington. Only $2 a glass! "So refreshing it’s Revolutionary!"

Rude Awakening Coffee House will help you fuel up for all the Lafayette birthday activities with a large Café au lait for the same price as a small one. The French like their coffee bold and flavorful and this is just what you will get at "Rude."

Diane's Vintage Market was remodeled in 2011 to offer an elegant shopping experience for antique lovers looking for a bargain. And what a bargain! All merchandise marked down 10% to 50% in honor of the Marquis!

Blue Moon Café offers a slice of New York right downtown! Just in time for the Lafayette Birthday Celebration, Blue Moon will feature a new appetizer---prosciutto and French fig on a crostini. The owners have named it the VICTOIRE in honor of the ship that brought Lafayette to America in 1777.

The Peacock’s Eye is yet another new store downtown offering unique specialty items found only in the big cities. Their shop is stocked with hand-painted Polish pottery and other gifts for the home. Note: Revolutionary War hero, General Casimir Pulaski, a Polish soldier, sailed on the VICTOIRE to America with Lafayette in 1777.

The Shops at 214 Hay Street features authentic and reproduction antiques in an elegant setting. They have just added a line of vintage clothing called "Vintage4You." Look for great sale prices on all items throughout the store. Also, check out the gigantic framed mirror in their showroom. It is reputed to be the biggest one in eastern North Carolina outside Tryon Palace!

Fresh Café is having their French wine and cheese tasting from 6PM to 10PM. Tickets are only $15. Make an evening of it! A knowledgeable "foodie" will be on hand as you sip and nibble. Plan to take home a couple of bottles!

Horne’s Café is sponsoring the French toast breakfast benefit for the Child Advocacy Center, but pancakes may be substituted. Coffee and bacon or sausage comes with your order and proceeds will go to the CAC, a very worthy cause in our community. Breakfast available from 7AM until 3PM. Don’t miss the "Parade of Pooches" at 9:00 while you are there!

So Chic Bebe will display many clearance items on the sidewalk, some up to 75% off! Call it chic or call it cute, it’s available today at a great price!

City Center Gallery & Books has Fayetteville’s most complete collection of books about Lafayette. They also have the elegant Lafayette glass paperweight for sale. Lafayette books and paperweights are 20% off only during the Lafayette Birthday Celebration! Out on the sidewalk, mystery/suspense and nonfiction books are 50% off!

Holme’s Fine Gifts has loaded up their clearance table with items reduced 50% and more. They also have the Lafayette glass paperweight, a great gift for old friends!

McDuff's Tea Room on Gillespie Street has a new look and a real "tea bar." Owner Mary Ann and daughter Amanda have shopped the tea markets in China and India to bring the world’s finest teas to Fayetteville. In a salute to Lafayette and our sister city in France, they will offer a special on tasty French cookies called macarons (not to be confused with the macaroons found in this country).

Circa 1800 offers fine dining on Person Street downtown, inside or alfresco. For Lafayette's birthday, their Saturday night special becomes - you guessed it - the "Lafayette Special!"

Lido's features European cuisine that would please the most refined French palate! Order 2 dinner entrees Friday or Saturday and receive a free split of Lafayette Brut champagne.

Leon Sugars is now on Person Street just two doors down from Lido’s and they are marking down select items up to 50% off!! Note: When Lafayette first came to America early in the Revolutionary War, George Washington apologized for the tattered clothing of his troops. If only he had a Leon Sugars back then!

The Franklin Street Shops are right across from the Farmer’s Market and only a block away from Hay Street. All will be offering cool deals for the birthday bash. "Significant connection" alert: Benjamin Franklin was a great admirer of Lafayette and they often worked together to convince the French government to send more troops, supplies, and money to America to fight the British.

Sweetbottoms is a cloth diapering shop offering many wonderful diapering options for you and your baby will have some "sweet deals" for $10.

The Promise specializes in Christian, Patriotic and Primitive designs that focus on God, Family, and Country and will have 10% off their fantastic, unique mosaics.

Kindred Hearts for all things fabulous, is a place to make your heart sing and will help you decorate with 10% off their fall wreaths.

White Trash and Colorful Accessories is a shop full of a mixture of cottage shabby home furnishings, vintage finds, artist created jewelry and home accents, greeting cards, home fragrance, unique designer handbags & totes, holiday decoration, and perfect gifts and will take 10% off anything French in the store and plush pumpkins.
